How to Acknowledge an Alert

If you have received an alert, either via Email or SMS, and wish to acknowledge (or ACK) that alert, to let Bulletproof know that you are aware of the issue and working to resolve it, log into Bulletproof's Control Centre (https://cc.bulletproof.net), with the username and password supplied to you.

Select Status Summary from the Monitoring and Alerting section of the menu on the left-hand side of the page.

You will be presented with a summary page listing the current service status of all services associated with you account.

Select the host that is alerting from the Host Group, under Status Summary for all Host Groups. This will list the servers associated with the Host Group in question.

You can either select the host in question, or the particular alert in question from this interface. In this example I have selected the Host (guest-server).

This page shows a complete list of all monitored services for the server in question. As you can see, the service 'DISK /tmp Utilisation' has a CRITICAL status. The description on the right hand side provides a summary as to why the service is alerting. To investigate further click on the service.

To notify Bulletproof, and any colleagues who receive alerts related to this system, that you are aware of, and are investigating the problem, select 'Acknowledge this service problem' fom the list of service commands on the right hand side.

You will be asked to comment on the acknowledgement. It is useful to leave a meaningful comment here, as any other engineers who may be required to troubleshoot this problem will be able to follow the steps you have taken.

Once you have entered a meaningful comment press 'Commit'. You will be presented with a confirmation screen. Select Done here.

You will now be taken back to the Service State information page, where the Current status will now show CRITICAL (Has been acknowledged).

You will now not receive alerts for this issue.

Once the issue has been resolved, and you are ready to re-enable alerting for this service, select 'Remove Problem Acknowledgement' from the list of service commands.

Again, you will be asked to confirm that you want to remove this service acknowledgement. From this point Alerts for this service will re-commence.

Press Commit, and then Done to finalise this.
